Garza Architects is honored to have worked with Boerne Independent School District on the renovation of the Kendall Elementary School and Cibolo Creek Elementary School libraries. Each 8,600 square feet library was carefully designed to create modern, functional, and inspiring student community spaces that reflect the District’s commitment to fostering creativity and academic excellence.
With a history rooted in strong community values, Boerne ISD has long been dedicated to providing high-quality educational environments for its students. This district-wide library renovation project holds particular significance as it marks a new chapter in enhancing the district’s existing facilities to create more flexible twenty-first century learning environments. For Garza Architects, this project represents our ongoing commitment to the evolution of educational environments that blend aesthetics with functionality.
Libraries serve as central learning hubs within schools, inviting students to engage with literature, explore new ideas, and develop critical thinking skills.
To create a welcoming and visually balanced environment for students and staff, the color schemes at Kendall Elementary—featuring Green, Maroon, and Light Gray—and at Cibolo Creek Elementary, with its vibrant Yellow and Blue tones, were carefully curated to reflect the unique character of each school. Additionally, the decorative clouds, decorative columns, and specialized direct/indirect pendant fixtures play a key role in defining the libraries, adding visual interest while maintaining a focus on the functional needs of a library. Together, these elements play a crucial role in creating an engaging and inspiring environment.
Furthermore, the libraries are outfitted with flexible furniture and mobile stacks that students and staff can reconfigure to support different learning styles and group activities. Each furniture piece was carefully selected in collaboration with BISD and their furniture vendor to create an environment that doesn’t feel cluttered and is exciting to see and use each day. This flexibility provides a number of seating options for students to choose from which gives them a sense of ownership in the library space.
Unique to our projects, each library also includes an Art Room/Maker Space. The industrial design creates an environment conducive to creativity, experimentation, and hands-on learning. These flexible spaces are designed to adapt to a variety of activities while remaining true to the overall design intent of creating spaces that balance function and aesthetics.
For Garza Architects, it is a privilege to have played a role in bringing our shared vision to life. The libraries will continue to serve and inspire generations of students in Boerne ISD.
